WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE BEFORE!!!

A transformation took place... I wasn't happy with how the canvas was looking. It already had a painting of a flower underneath and the squares and rectangles started to create layers and so it became a mess.  I continued to build layers with paper cut- outs, crayons, plastic straws and pencils. I got deeper  with the colour to bring out the "raw" like state of the artwork. Can you see the hidden layers? The title "ChildHood' refers to children over the world and how they have been raised and conditioned within their cultures. Hurt/Love/Punishment/Confusion/Direction/Race
The  paper cut-outs (taken from a "How to be a Traditional Housewife" manual) tells the story of a pregnant lady and her experiences before and after child birth.

Charcoal Creations inspired by the models at Cleveland Buzz 2012

"Lady by the lounge"
Charcoal and pastel on paper

Lady by the lounge, June 2012.  By Alicia Williams
"Lady by the Lounge" was inspired by a series of life drawing sketches created during the Cleveland Buzz event in June 2012. Warm, earthy tones were used to replicate the atmosphere on the day of the event, as well as to emphasise an aura of mystery. Pastel, Charcoal and Acrylic Paint were used to create texture and tone, to enhance the models stance and her unusual surroundings. The lady's face is expressionless apart from her enigmatic smile, which gives no secrets away. Possibly a modern day Mona Lisa, the lady by the lounge is a woman who emits grace and beauty.
